Gabrielle Morrison November 30, 2023 Popular DJ Shot and Killed at Party in Westmoreland A prominent disc jockey was fatally shot at a party at Broughton in Little London, Westmoreland on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Davroy Barnes, otherwise known as "DJ Myrie," a resident of Mango Hall in the parish.   According to police reports, Barnes was sitting in his car at the party when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and a lone male suspect emerged.  The individual proceeded to rob patrons before opening fire, striking Barnes multiple times.   Following the shooting, Barnes was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds and rushed to the hospital by responding authorities where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.   The motive for the shooting is unknown, and investigations are ongoing.                         ...
Daneilla McLaughlin Novermber 30, 2023 Golding rejects Holness’ plan to make Portmore 15 th parish In a press release from the Office of the leader of the opposition, opposition leader, Mark Golding critiqued the government's proposal to alter the current structure of the Portmore municipality.   The proposal to make Portmore the 15 th parish was announced in parliament on November 3, 2020 by prime minister, Andrew Holness and minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Desmond Mckenzie. Subsequently, a special select committee comprising Clifford Everald Warmington, Fitz Jackson, Andrew Wheatley, Marlene Mahaloo Forte and Delroy Chuck was established to deliberate on the issue, according to the report of the joint select committee. In 2022, the house of representatives approved the motion to make Portmore the 15 th parish. Alexia King-Whyte November 16, 2023 Man sentenced for murder begs public for forgiveness One of the men involved in the murder of politician Phillip Paulwell's daughter and her mother has apologized to Jamaicans and asked for forgiveness.   Toshyna Patterson, 27, and 10-month-old Sarayah Paulwell were abducted outside their St Andrew home on September 9. It was reported that they were taken to Kingston, were shot, and killed and their bodies burnt.   Richard Brown, 32, who had driven the killers and the victims to the murder scene, was yesterday sentenced to 30 years each on two counts of murder, which are to run concurrently.   Brown, who is to serve 20 years in prison before parole considerations, was also responsible for collecting $100,000 part payment from the alleged mastermind to deliver the victims to the contract killers.   Following his sentencing in the Home Circuit Court yesterday, his lawyers, Rita Allen-Brown shared a letter that B...
 Renee Sewell November 16, 2023 Major road repairs to commence in St. Elizabeth                                 Major repairs are expected to commence on roads in St Elizabeth North-Eastern at a cost of $250,000,000 in March 2024.   Member of Parliament (MP), Delroy Slowely, made the announcement during the 2023/2024 sitting of the State of Constituency Debate held on Wednesday in the House of Representatives. These roads include Santa Cruz to Leeds and Lacovia to Burnt Savannah. The MP also called on the National Works Agency (NWA) to construct roundabouts in several areas; specifically, the Lovely Point and Burnt Savannah entrances and exits. Slowely emphasized the need for roundabouts and the role they would play in accident prevention. He expressed that there has been a number of close calls in recent times.   ...
Gabrielle Morrison November 9,2023  Education Ministry Mourns Victims of Senseless Violence   The Ministry of Education and Youth is reeling from the recent loss of three young lives, a parent, and a principal in multiple incidents.   In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said that on Friday, November 3, a Grade 1 student of the St Jude’s Primary School in St Andrew and the mother of a Grade 4 student were fatally shot in an apparent drive-by incident.   On Sunday, November 5, Christopher Sinclair, principal of Duckenfield Primary School in St Thomas, passed away after battling illness for several months.   And on Monday, November 6, two nine-year-old boys from Chetwood Primary School in St James were killed when gunmen opened fire on the taxi they were traveling in.   The education ministry said that it has dispatched teams of grief counselors to all three schools to offer support to the communities.   Minister of Ed...
Daneilla McLaughlin Novermber 7, 2023 Curfew underway in Duanvale following quadruple murder Following last month's quadruple murder in the Duanvale community, Trelawny police and soldiers imposed a 8:00 p.m. curfew in the community a week ago. Most citizens obeyed the curfew order of the police and military personnel but expressed their annoyance with it. A few citizens were unwilling to adhere to the order. Cook shops and corner shops were closed as early as 7:30 p.m. last week, and citizens rushed home in order to prevent the police from warning them. During a church service on Friday night, members of the church were cognizant of the curfew order. Church members frequently checked the time and constantly reminded the leaders that they should end service early so that the church members could reach home before the curfew. Alexia King-Whyte November 2, 2023 Police take several into custody following gun seizure at party   The Spanish Town police in St Catherine took several men, including a member of the entertainment fraternity, into custody in connection with the seizure of an illegal gun at a party this morning. It was reported that about 3:30 a.m., the police carried out an operation at an event called Pill Wednesdays in Spanish Town and a bag containing a Glock pistol was discovered. The men were then escorted to the Spanish Town Police Station. Acting head of the St Catherine North Police Division, Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, said the police will continue its offensive against criminal activities.  Renee Sewell November 1, 2023 ‘Have Resilience!’ Prime Minister Andrew Holness   urges Jamaicans   On Monday, October 30, 2023, sections of Jamaica were jolted by a magnitude 5.6   earthquake. In a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister, citizens were urged to be resilient in the process of recovery.   Prime Minister Andrew Holness began the press conference by speaking on the significance of the earthquake as well as reports of damages. He stated that though damages have been reported, it would only be considered minor damage.
