Major road repairs to commence in
St. Elizabeth
Major repairs are expected to commence
on roads in St Elizabeth North-Eastern at a cost of $250,000,000 in March 2024.
Member of Parliament (MP), Delroy Slowely, made the announcement during the 2023/2024 sitting of the State of Constituency Debate held on Wednesday in the House of Representatives.
These roads include Santa Cruz to Leeds and Lacovia to Burnt Savannah.
The MP also called on the National Works Agency (NWA) to
construct roundabouts in several areas; specifically, the Lovely Point and
Burnt Savannah entrances and exits. Slowely emphasized the need for roundabouts
and the role they would play in accident prevention. He expressed that there
has been a number of close calls in recent times.
“These
are danger zones and accident-prone areas that if roundabouts were to be
installed, would certainly reduce the number of accidents on our roads. While
there have not been any major accidents at these two points, I raise them today
because there have been many close calls, and as my granny would say, ‘a stitch
in time saves nine’,” he said.
